Treasurer of the Board

Share My Smile is a nonprofit founded in 2010. Our mission is to provide family strengthening events and care programs for foster families to encourage true, honest, and happy smiles in children. It is our vision that foster care families have the resources to become successful, which encourages more individuals to become foster parents and positively impact a foster child's life. We are currently looking for a Board Treasurer.

Share My Smile BOARD TREASURER JOB DESCRIPTION

The Treasurer is elected at the annual meeting of SMS to hold office for a two-year term, or until a successor is elected and qualified. The Treasurer is eligible for re-election.

Requirements:

1. Financial knowledge of the organization.
2. Personal commitment to devote the time necessary to perform the responsibilities of Treasurer.
3. Understanding of financial accounting for nonprofit organizations.

Responsibilities:

1. Serves as Chair of the Finance Committee, if applicable.
2. Manages, with the Finance Committee*, the Board’s review of, and action related to, the Board’s financial responsibilities.
3. Works with the Executive Director and accountant to ensure that appropriate financial reports are made available to the Board on a timely basis.
4. Assists the Executive Director and accountant in preparing the annual budget and presenting the budget to the Board for approval.
5. Works with the Finance Committee* and the Executive Director to develop Fiscal Policies for recommendation to the Board to ensure the financial integrity and sustainability of the organization.
6. Works with the Finance Committee* and the Executive Director to develop long-term financial strategies.
7. Keeps currently informed of legal, regulatory and sector developments relating to the Board’s financial responsibilities.
8. Remains compliant to duties and expectations outlined within Accounting Policy.
9. Monitors financial accounts to ensure accuracy; provides updated financial data to the accountant.

The SMS Bylaws provide:

Section 5.09. Treasurer. If required by the Board of Directors, the Treasurer shall give a bond for the faithful discharge of his or her duties in the sum and with the surety that the Board of Directors determines. He or she shall render to the President and the Board of Directors at the regular meetings of the Board of Directors, or whenever they request, an account of all his or her transactions as Treasurer and of the financial condition of the Corporation. He or she shall have charge and custody of and be responsible for all funds and securities of the Corporation; keep full and accurate account of receipts and disbursements in books belonging to the Corporation; disburse the funds of the Corporation as may be ordered by the Board of Directors or the President, taking proper vouchers for the disbursements; receive and give receipts for moneys due and payable to the Corporation from any source whatsoever, and deposit or cause to be deposited all such moneys in the name of the Corporation in the banks, trust companies or other depositories as are selected in accordance with the provisions of article VIII of these bylaws; and in general perform all the duties incident to the office of Treasurer and any other duties that the President or the Board of Directors assign to him or her.
