Do you like meeting people from around the world? Value the diversity in your own community? Consider becoming a Small Group Tutor at the Chandler Public Library. There are adults in our community waiting to be paired with a library volunteer tutor to assist them with their English skills. All training is provided. Volunteers meet with their small group tutoring participants twice a week, for two hours each time. This is an on-going volunteer opportunity and we do ask for a minimum of a 6-month commitment. Volunteers must first attend a volunteer orientation, provide references and attend specific tutor training. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. Volunteers will be trained on the materials used in the tutoring sessions, as well as given information on how to work with adult learners. No prior teaching experience is needed. Tutoring sessions may be scheduled at any of the four Chandler Library locations, based on need. Good interpersonal skills are needed, as well as a desire to work with others in the library setting. Having good English skills and a comfort level working of with 4-5 adults in an instructional setting will be needed.
There are four Chandler Public Library buildings throughout Chandler. Visit the Library's website for location details.
Adult volunteer orientations are held at the Downtown Chandler Library. The orientation is an information sharing session where current volunteer opportunities are presented. Following orientation, attendees will have the opportunity to apply for volunteer positions. Attendance at orientation does not guarantee a position within the volunteer program or commit you in any way. It is simply a time to learn about what volunteer roles are available within the Library. Applicant interviews and reference checks will take place following orientation attendance.
