As an SUDC Facilitator, you will play an impactful role in a resident’s journey toward independence and permanent housing. You will lead 60-minute classes during business hours (Monday–Thursday, typically scheduled between 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM), providing essential support in areas such as:

    • Resume building
    • Job searching

    • Mock interviewing

You will work in tandem with our Workforce Development Manager to review curriculum and prepare materials, ensuring you are fully supported and ready to host sessions.

Why Volunteer with Step Up DC?

Volunteering within the SUDC program is a powerful way to use your professional experience to help women experiencing homelessness achieve their career goals. By facilitating these workshops, you will:

    • Empower Professional Growth: Help participants gain the confidence and practical tools necessary to secure gainful employment in fields like IT, hospitality, healthcare, and administration.
    • Transform Lives: Provide our participants with skills and experiences that help them gain financial independence, directly impacting a woman's ability to secure permanent housing.
    • Share Your Expertise: Use your career knowledge to coach, mentor, and inspire women as they navigate the job market.
    • Be Part of a Team: Collaborate directly with our Workforce Development Manager, who will provide guidance, feedback, and all the resources you need to be successful.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead Weekly Instruction: Facilitate a 60-minute workforce development class for residents.
    • Career Coaching: Guide participants through essential career-readiness topics, including resume writing, job applications, and interview techniques.
    • Collaborate for Success: Coordinate with the Workforce Development Manager to review established curriculum and prepare session materials.
    • Foster an Inclusive Environment: Create a welcoming, respectful, and safe space where residents feel empowered to ask questions and refine their professional skills.
    • Provide Consistent Support: Offer positive encouragement and mentorship throughout your weekly sessions to ensure a productive learning environment.

    Qualifications

    • Professional experience in HR, recruiting, career coaching, or general business administration is highly valued.
    • Passion for workforce development and supporting women in their pursuit of financial security.
