    About Sage-ing International

Sage-ing International (SI) is a nonprofit community for elders and elders-to-be who are exploring new ways of aging. Inspired by Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi's book From Age-ing to Sage-ing, SI defines “sage-ing” as the art and process of consciously developing wisdom, compassion, and purpose as we grow older. Founded in 2005, SI brings people together through workshops, Wisdom Circles, a Sage-ing Leader certification program, and a growing membership community built on three pillars: teaching and learning, service, and community.

SI is led by an all-volunteer Leadership Circle (its Board of Directors), currently in the midst of executing a new three-year strategy, standing up a membership program, and strengthening its governance and financial foundation under bylaws approved for 2026. This is a pivotal moment to help build the operating backbone that will carry that strategy forward.

    The Opportunity

SI is seeking a Treasurer & Operations Leader to join the Leadership Circle as an Officer. This role combines the traditional fiduciary duties of a nonprofit Treasurer with broader operational leadership across the organization — building the systems, processes, and financial discipline that let a volunteer-powered nonprofit run smoothly and scale sustainably. You will partner closely with the Co-Chairs, Secretary, and Team Co-Leaders (Education, Marketing & Sponsors/Partners, Development, Service, and Special Events) to steward SI's finances and strengthen how the organization operates day to day.

    Key Responsibilities

    Financial Stewardship (Treasurer)

    • Oversee financial planning, annual budgeting, and forecasting in partnership with the Co-Chairs and Team Co-Leaders, building on SI's standardized planning and budgeting approach.
    • Maintain accurate financial records, banking, and reconciliation; oversee bookkeeping (directly or via a bookkeeper/platform).
    • Prepare and present clear financial reports and budget-to-actual updates at each Leadership Circle meeting.
    • Ensure compliance with nonprofit financial requirements, including timely IRS Form 990 filing and state charitable registration.
    • Oversee collection and reconciliation of membership dues, donations, and program/event revenue.
    • Establish and maintain sound financial controls, approval processes, and reserve policies to protect SI's assets.
    • Manage banking relationships and payment platforms, and support any external financial review or audit.

    Operations Leadership

    • Serve as the organization's operational backbone, helping Team Co-Leaders and the Leadership Circle run efficiently across programs and initiatives.
    • Own and continuously improve administrative systems — membership database, volunteer management, and related platforms.
    • Coordinate vendor, contractor, and technology-platform relationships (e.g., website/administration, payment processing, communications tools).
    • Support execution of the annual planning and budgeting cadence across all teams.
    • Partner with the Secretary to keep governance documentation, policies, and Leadership Circle records well organized.
    • Identify and implement process improvements that reduce administrative burden on SI's volunteer leaders and free up time for mission-driven work.

    What We're Looking For

    • Experience in financial management, accounting, or nonprofit finance; comfort reading and presenting financial statements.
    • Familiarity with nonprofit compliance requirements (e.g., Form 990, state filings) is a plus, though not required.
    • An operational, process-improvement mindset and comfort working within a volunteer-led organizational structure.
    • Proficiency with bookkeeping software (e.g., QuickBooks) and general ease with membership/volunteer management platforms.
    • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to lead through influence in an all-volunteer environment.
    • A personal connection to SI's mission and enthusiasm for supporting a community of conscious elders.

    What You'll Gain

    • A meaningful leadership role helping shape the financial and operational future of a growing mission-driven nonprofit.
    • A seat on the Leadership Circle, with a direct voice in SI's strategy and governance.
    • Community and connection with a network of elders, leaders, and lifelong learners who share a commitment to conscious aging.

    How to Get Involved

If this role speaks to you, we'd love to hear from you. Please reach out via sage-ing.org to learn more and start a conversation with the Leadership Circle Co-Chairs about how your experience and interests align with this opportunity.

Sage-ing International is an all-volunteer, mission-driven community. Roles and responsibilities may be shaped collaboratively with the successful candidate.
