Heartland Hospice is seeking a volunteer quilter to donate time and materials for our annual Memorial Quilt.
Each year, Heartland Hospice hosts a Memorial Service to honor patients, friends, and loved ones who have passed. The centerpiece of this service is the Memory Quilt, crafted from pieces of fabric donated by family and friends in remembrance of their loved ones. We ask that each fabric piece be meaningful—perhaps a material that was special to the loved one or one that evokes a cherished memory. While we encourage cotton percale squares measuring 10" x 10", we welcome all types and sizes of fabric. The result is a beautiful, one-of-a-kind work of art.
The Annual Memorial Service is typically held in November, with fabric submissions due by mid-April. Once completed, the quilt is proudly displayed during the service and then hung in the Heartland Hospice offices, accompanied by a plaque noting the year it was made and the quilter’s name. Photos of the quilt are shared with attendees, and copies are mailed to others who wish to have one.
While this is a volunteer opportunity and not financially compensated, it is truly a labor of love. Our staff, patients, and families treasure these Memory Quilts and the care and creativity that go into making them.
