    Alternate Caregiver - Approved Substitute (Specialized Needs)

    Job Summary

    Provide temporary, supportive care for children with special needs in a licensed foster home when the primary caregiver is unavailable. Duties include supervision, meals, hygiene, structured routines, and support for children with special needs, behavioral challenges, or therapeutic care plans.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide safe, nurturing, and trauma-informed care for children with special or behavioral needs
    • Follow individualized care plans, administer medications as authorized, and monitor daily activities
    • Support educational, recreational, and therapy-related routines
    • Document daily care, incidents, and observations; communicate updates with the primary foster parent and agency staff
    • Attend required trainings and maintain certifications as required by licensing standards
    • Collaborate respectfully with social workers, case managers, and other professionals

    Qualifications

    • Must be 21 years of age or older
    • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education preferred
    • Experience working with children; foster care, behavioral health, or special needs experience preferred
    • Ability to follow structured routines, remain patient under stress, and provide compassionate care
    • Strong communication, documentation, and professionalism

    • Ohio SACWIS / Child Welfare Records Check
    • Out-of-state abuse/neglect registry check (if applicable)
