A Free Bird is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in New York City. We empower children diagnosed with cancer to explore their artistic passions through multimedia storytelling, art, music, and performance. High-quality visual content plays an essential role in sharing these stories and honoring the creativity of the children we serve.

Role Overview

The Photo Retoucher works closely with the Multimedia Department Manager and Creative Director to enhance and refine digital photography used across A Free Bird’s programs, campaigns, and digital platforms. This role focuses on producing polished, high-quality visual assets that align with brand standards and elevate storytelling.

This position is ideal for someone with a strong artistic eye, technical editing skills, and an appreciation for detail-driven visual work.

Key Responsibilities

• Retouch and enhance digital photographs using professional editing software
• Adjust resolution, composition, color balance, contrast, brightness, and saturation as needed
• Crop images and prepare assets for digital use across web and social platforms
• Add, remove, or refine elements within images in alignment with creative direction
• Ensure visual consistency and quality across all edited photography
• Make revisions and refinements based on feedback from the Creative Director or Multimedia Manager
• Deliver edited images in a timely manner while meeting project guidelines

Skills & Qualifications

• 1–2+ years of experience in photo retouching, photography, or graphic design (academic, freelance, or volunteer experience accepted)
• Proficiency in photo editing software such as Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, or similar tools
• Strong understanding of color, composition, and visual aesthetics
• Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to high-quality output
• Clear written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment
• Portfolio or samples of retouched or edited photography preferred
