Position Summary: Reporting to the Director of Development and Community Engagement, the Volunteer & Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for leading all volunteer recruitment, retention and experience, while serving as a frontline community ambassador who expands awareness and entry points to the organization.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Volunteer Program Management
- Recruit, screen, onboard, train, and retain volunteers
- Develop, implement, evaluate and oversee volunteer policies, and procedures to ensure effective engagement and compliance.
- Coordinate volunteer scheduling and coverage for programs/events
- Prepare volunteer reports for VOCA, CJCC, board, and annual reporting
- Manage volunteer management software (POINT, JagPulse, Idealist, Outlook Calendar)
- Create and manage volunteer communications, and social media
- Maintain and update volunteer records and documentation
- Track volunteer hours and impact data
- Plan and implement volunteer appreciation and retention strategies
Intern Program Management
- Recruit, screen, onboard, and orient interns (Counseling, PR, Outreach)
- Track intern training progress and required documentation
- Coordinate intern scheduling and department placement
- Provide assignments and projects in collaboration with other departments
- Manage intern timesheets and university requirements
- Plan and implement intern appreciation and retention strategies
Community Outreach
- Represent organization outreach events, fairs and presentations.
- Coordinate with staff and volunteers to support community outreach and awareness efforts
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with community partners
- Build and strengthen volunteer and intern recruitment pipelines through strategic community partnerships
- Develop and lead strategic community awareness initiatives to increase visibility and engagement across service areas
- Assists with social media planning and execution while coordinating community newsletter production, including drafting content, organizing graphics, maintaining a content calendar, and ensuring messaging aligns with fundraising and mission-driven priorities.
Fundraising Support
- Assist with event execution and logistics, including event and campaign communications
- Identify volunteers who could become donors
- Support donor stewardship touches involving volunteers
Internal Coordination
- Assess and communicate program and client needs to volunteers to ensure effective placement and support
- Coordinate with program staff to align in-kind donations with program needs, including management of the Amazon Wish List and serving as primary liaison for organized donation drives and seasonal initiatives
- Oversee intake, organization, inventory management, and distribution of in-kind donations received through seasonal and programmatic efforts
- Ensure accurate tracking and documentation of in-kind donations in coordination with administrative staff
Education/Skills/Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a related field such as nonprofit management, communications, marketing, public administration, business, social work, or related field preferred
- 2-4 years of experience with volunteer management, community outreach, customer service or relationship-based roles, and experience representing an organization in public or community settings preferred
Physical Responsibilities:
- Physically able to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds.
