Volunteers Needed at Thanksgiving Celebrations

Bowery Residents’ Committee (BRC) is one of New York City’s largest and most comprehensive social service agencies, dedicated to serving men and women who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of becoming homeless. Every day, we see the difference compassion makes—and it is the generosity of volunteers like you that allows us to carry out our mission with both heart and impact.

Thanksgiving is the busiest volunteer season of the year — and also one of the most meaningful. For many of the individuals we serve, the holiday can be a difficult reminder of what they’ve lost. But thanks to our volunteers, it also becomes a time of comfort, dignity, and connection.

Due to overwhelming response and generosity, we are now at full capacity for volunteer shifts on Thanksgiving Day and are unable to accept any additional sign-ups for that date. However, if you already have plans on the holiday itself and are available on November 26, your time and presence can still make a tremendous difference at one of our pre-holiday celebrations in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. These events bring warmth, joy, and a true sense of community to those we serve — and your help would be especially meaningful.

If you’re interested in volunteering, please note that all volunteers must complete the BRC New Volunteer Registration Form (a link will be provided once you submit your interest here) and attend a brief orientation session. The sooner you complete these steps, the more opportunities will be available to you. Shifts are filled on a first-come, first-served basis and tend to reach capacity quickly, so early registration is encouraged. By planning ahead, you’ll have the best chance of securing a role that fits your schedule and allows you to make the greatest impact.
