    Job Description:

    Kid Power Inc. seeks a highly motivated and creative Communications & Media Intern with an interest in nonprofit storytelling, marketing, and youth development. This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to build professional skills in communications while supporting a mission-driven organization.

    Reports To: Development & Communications Associate

    Who We Are:

    At Kid Power, we fuel youth leadership in underserved communities across DC by fostering academic achievement, emotional wellness, and positive civic engagement. Through our holistic, whole-child approach, we empower DC youth to transform not only their own lives but also the communities to which they belong. The Kid Power Development Team supports the entire organization by leading external communications, thoughtful storytelling, fundraising, and event planning, as well as grant research and writing.

    Responsibilities

    • Content Creation: Write and edit engaging content for social media, newsletters, website updates, and other external communications.
    • Media Management: Support marketing/media storage by organizing, labeling, and maintaining photo/video archives.
    • Program Engagement: Attend Kid Power program sites weekly to capture stories, interviews, and photos for digital communications.
    • Slack & Internal Communications: Use Slack and other tools to help coordinate communications across staff and programs.
    • Creative Projects: Assist with graphic design (using Canva or similar tools) and propose innovative approaches to engage stakeholders.

    Qualifications

    • Strong research, writing, and editing skills with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences.
    • Familiarity with social media platforms and current digital trends.
    • Experience with Slack or similar collaboration tools.
    • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects.
    • Familiarity with Canva or other design tools is a plus.

    General

    • Attends all pertinent trainings and team meetings.
    • Communicates regularly with supervisory team members.
    • Responds to all communications and correspondence within 24 hours.

    Time Frame: All dates subject to change

    • Mid-September 2025 - Mid-June 2026
    • 20-25 hours per week
    • Suggested hours: 10 AM - 3 PM

    Job Type: Unpaid Internship

    Ability to commute/relocate:

    • Washington, DC: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
    • Work Location: Hybrid with opportunities to visit on-site starting January 2026.
