At its essence, Hospice Volunteering is about spending time with another person, in a way that they want;... In short: it is about them, not about us. If you have the patience to be with patients, giving them just a couple of hours a week, you can make a hard time easier. It's always easier when the emotional-load is shared.

Yes, Hospice Volunteering can be heavy... But it can be silly and fun, or just mundane, too. The goal is simply to share moments with another as they journey towards their end, supporting the patient, as they want to live their final months, weeks and days. If hospice is invited in early enough, a true relationship has time to develop. However, don't underestimate the impact you can have being there for just the last hours, letting them know that they are not alone.

When you do, you will be given information about the onboarding process of becoming a Hospice Volunteer with Echo Hospice. (It does involve a training, background checks and some health-related requirements.

Responsibilities

• • Offer companionship and emotional support to patients, engaging in conversations, reading, or other comforting activities.
  • Support patients with memory care needs, ensuring safety and engagement.
  • Follow care plans developed by healthcare professionals while adhering to HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy.

Qualifications

• • Must be a nice person!
  • Must be open to engaging a wide spectrum of personalities.
  • Must have time to give.
  • Must have transportation (own a car or some other means).
  • Must be legally in the United States.
