What does a Veteran-to-Veteran Hospice Volunteer do?
Our Veteran-to-Veteran Volunteers provide companionship, emotional support, and a sense of camaraderie to Veteran patients. Your service can include:
- Sharing stories and experiences: Connecting with Veterans through shared military experiences and understanding their unique perspectives.
- Providing a listening ear: Offering a safe and non-judgmental space for Veterans to share their stories, concerns, and reflections on their service.
- Honoring their service: Acknowledging and appreciating the sacrifices made by Veteran patients.
- Offering support to families: Providing support and understanding to the families of Veteran patients, recognizing the unique challenges they may face.
- Reading military-related materials: Sharing books, articles, or poems related to military history or experiences.
- Simply being present: Offering a comforting presence and a sense of connection with someone who understands their background.
- Collaborating with the hospice team: Working alongside nurses, social workers, and other professionals to ensure the specific needs of Veteran patients are being met.
