Business & Operations Manager Volunteer
Department: Business & Operations / Administration
Organization: A Free Bird | 501(c)(3) Nonprofit
Location: Remote
Commitment: 10-15 hours per week | Minimum 6 month commitment

Position Summary
The Business & Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing organizational operations, improving internal processes, and supporting strategic decision-making across departments. This role plays a critical part in ensuring efficiency, scalability, and alignment with A Free Bird’s mission and growth objectives.
This position is ideal for a detail-oriented and strategic thinker who can manage operations, optimize workflows, and support leadership through data-driven insights.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement operational strategies to improve efficiency and organizational performance
Support budget planning, tracking, and resource allocation across departments
Identify process gaps and lead process improvement initiatives to streamline workflows
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (HR, Marketing, Programs, IT) to ensure smooth operations
Establish and maintain operational systems, documentation, and best practices
Analyze organizational data to support data-driven decision-making and strategic planning
Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and prepare reports for leadership
Assist in scaling operations and supporting new initiatives
Ensure alignment between operational activities and organizational goals
Support leadership with administrative and operational tasks as needed
Qualifications & Competencies
2–4+ years of experience in operations, business management, administration, or a related field as a manager
Experience with budget development, financial tracking, or resource planning
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and provide actionable insights
Proven experience in process improvement and operational strategy
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Strong written and verbal communication abilities
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace (especially Excel/Sheets)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a nonprofit or startup environment
Familiarity with data visualization or reporting tools
Experience working across multiple departments or managing cross-functional projects
Additional Information
Fully remote position
Minimum 6 month commitment
10-15 hours per week
Must have reliable internet access and availability for team meetings
