Since its founding in 2014, WOCOTM has delivered community-based education, advocacy, prevention, and support programs addressing issues such as substance abuse, maternal and child health, youth development, financial literacy, and community engagement both in the U.S. and internationally.     This mission-driven organization seeks a skilled legal professional to serve in a strategic volunteer leadership role on the Board of Directors.

    Position Overview

    The Learning and Development Specialist supports the organization’s people strategy by designing, coordinating, and delivering impactful learning initiatives for staff and volunteers.

    This role focuses on onboarding, skills development, leadership growth, and continuous learning to ensure individuals are equipped to perform effectively and contribute to mission success. The Learning and Development Specialist works in close partnership with the Human Resources Manager, Director of Human Resources, and organizational leaders to strengthen professional growth and capacity building across the organization.

    This is a non-paid, volunteer leadership position.

    Key Responsibilities

    Training & Learning Program Development

      • Design and coordinate onboarding and orientation programs for new staff and volunteers.
      • Develop training materials, curricula, and learning resources aligned with organizational needs and values.
      • Support creation of role-specific and organization-wide training programs.

    Professional & Leadership Development

      • Support skills training, leadership development, and career pathway initiatives.
      • Assist in identifying learning needs and development opportunities across departments.
      • Support coaching, mentoring, and peer-learning initiatives as appropriate.

    Training Delivery & Facilitation

      • Coordinate and facilitate workshops, training sessions, and learning events (virtual or in-person).
      • Support external facilitators or subject matter experts as needed.
      • Ensure training approaches are inclusive, accessible, and culturally responsive.

    Learning Evaluation & Continuous Improvement

      • Track participation, completion, and feedback related to training activities.
      • Support evaluation of learning effectiveness and performance impact.
      • Use data and feedback to improve training programs and materials.

    Collaboration & Organizational Support

      • Partner with HR leadership to align learning initiatives with policies and performance processes.
      • Collaborate with leadership and subject matter experts to strengthen organizational capacity.
      • Maintain training records and documentation in accordance with organizational standards.

    Additional duties may be assigned as organizational needs evolve.

    Volunteer Role Notice

    This is a non-paid, volunteer leadership role. Individuals serving in this capacity are not employees of the organization and do not receive financial compensation or employment benefits. Time commitment expectations and responsibilities will be mutually agreed upon in writing.

    Qualifications

    Education & Credentials

    Required:

      • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Human Resources, Organizational Development, Training & Development, Psychology, or closely related field.

    Preferred:

      • Coursework or training in instructional design, adult learning, or organizational development.

    Preferred Certifications:

      • Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) or equivalent.
      • Training facilitation, instructional design, or coaching certification.

    Experience & Expertise

      • Experience designing, coordinating, or delivering training and development programs.
      • Familiarity with adult learning principles and facilitation best practices.
      • Experience supporting onboarding, skills development, or leadership training initiatives.
      • Ability to create engaging, accessible, and well-structured learning materials.
      • Strong facilitation, communication, and organizational skills.
      • Experience working in nonprofit, volunteer-driven, or mission-focused environments preferred.
      • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
      • Commitment to inclusive, equitable, and learner-centered practices.
