ECEF Community Outreach, Inc currently looking for volunteers. If you want to build yourself, give back and are ready to change the world. We’re committed to providing one-on-one tutoring and mentoring.
Tutor Volunteers must:
- High school student (16 yrs - up) college degree, some college experience, GED or high school diploma.
- Knowledge of one’s boundaries and biases
- Ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality
- must pass the background check
- must be 21 and older
- Must pass a Reference check
Volunteer responsibilities include:
- Must have Mentoring/tutoring experience.
- Looking for highly motivated with a charismatic personality.
- Be consistent, compassionate, and committed.
- Must be available in afternoon and evening availability.
- Be able to commit AT LEAST 3 months.
- Must have a passion for teaching & inspiring student success.
- Must have excellent communication skills to teach properly.
- Plan tutoring sessions and provide small group and one-to-one tutoring to youth.
- Promote a positive learning environment.
- Must be positive role model.
- Be on time for tutoring session.
- Tutor kids with homework and specialized subject needs.
- When shift is over you are free to go.
- Assist parents with Reading, English and Math.
- Placing calls to the homes of absent students.
- Providing homework assistance to a consistent group of students before and after school
Mentor must:
- Must be 21 years or older, College degree, some college experience, GED or high school diploma.
- Provide emotional, social, and practical support within limits
- Role model healthy, trusting relationships by using clear communication and setting appropriate boundaries.
- Assist mentees in meeting their individualized goals
- Must be very patient and willing to help.
- Be able to commit AT LEAST 3 months or more.
- Acknowledge mentee’s strengths, talents, and gifts and find opportunities to use them.
- Empower mentees to resolve personal issues through problem-solving model.
- Participate in weekly activities outside of the home to expose mentees to new experiences and opportunities, connecting mentees to outside resources.
- Complete thorough documentation of weekly activities
- Engage in clear communication with mentee, family.
- Sensitivity to cultural differences,
- Willing to tutor on a consistent basis for a minimum 1 to 2 hours per week,
- Patience, dependable, understanding, and flexibility,
- Good basic reading and writing skills, math skills,
- Good communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and insurance
Responsibilities
- Complete informal interview and mandatory orientation,
- Complete training workshop offered at the community college,
- Tutor must be able to work one-on-one, or small groups,
- Work closely with the volunteer coordinator,
- Notify the volunteer coordinator if you are unable to be present during your scheduled hours,
- Must pass background check required.
