Shopping Squad - Grocery Shop for a Neighbor!

The Shopping Squad is for Heights and Hills clients who demonstrate a need for grocery assistance. Volunteers will shop for clients, delivery the groceries (mostly contactless) then be reimbursed, that simple!
How it Works: Every Monday, the Volunteer Department emails volunteers with the neighborhoods of clients who have been referred for shopping. Every Wednesday, the Volunteer Department sends a “Shopping SOS” about any trips for the week that still do not have a volunteer. If you volunteer, the Volunteer Department will send you an email with details about the trip, including the shopping list.
How often you volunteer is up to YOU! You only need to respond to our emails if you want to help-out with a shopping request, we do NOT need to hear from you if you can’t help. We know you would if you could!
- Must be 16 years or older, if younger than 18 must have written consent from parent/guardian
- Flexible, mature, kind, compassionate and reliable
- Able to communicate verbally and in writing
- Ability to follow through on commitments
- Ability to carry and deliver semi-heavy orders
- Willing to learn and follow organizational policies, confidentiality laws and volunteer guidelines
- Willing to attend our New Volunteer Training
- Willing to complete a no-cost criminal background check (for those 18 years or older)
Preferred Skills: Spanish and/or Creole speaking
Important Note: Please be advised that we serve 21 neighborhoods in Brooklyn, please visit our Who We Serve page for the full list. Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Heights and Hills! Currently, we strongly prefer volunteers who live and/or can travel to the following Brooklyn neighborhoods: Flatbush, East Flatbush, East New York, Crown Heights, and Bedford Stuyvesant. Although we encourage all to apply, please be advised there will be a wait if you have other neighborhood preferences.
