We advocate for incarcerated Texans and their families by promoting public awareness, education, and connection to community resources. Our mission is to create humane conditions within the Texas prison system through collaboration and empowerment.

Opportunity Overview
TPCA is seeking passionate and qualified individuals to join our Board of Directors. We are especially looking for a Legal/Attorney Board Member to provide strategic legal guidance and help shape our advocacy efforts. This is a remote volunteer position with flexible hours (5–20 hours/month).
General Board Member Responsibilities
- Champion TPCA’s mission and strategic goals
- Attend and actively participate in board meetings and events
- Serve on at least one board committee
- Support fundraising and make an annual personal contribution
- Promote TPCA through personal and professional networks
- Uphold confidentiality and conflict-of-interest policies
- Represent TPCA in the community
Legal/Attorney Board Member – Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal oversight and strategic counsel
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit governance and 501(c)(3) regulations
- Review policies, contracts, and partnership agreements
- Advise on advocacy strategies related to incarceration reform
- Assess risk and propose proactive legal solutions
- Serve as a legal resource during board decision-making
- Liaise with external legal entities or agencies as needed
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent legal qualification
- Experience in nonprofit law, civil rights, criminal justice, or related fields
- Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills
- Ability to translate legal concepts into practical guidance
- Commitment to ethical governance and social justice
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Familiarity with Texas law and prison systems (preferred)
Term & Application
