About GiGi’s Playhouse: GiGi’s Playhouse is a national nonprofit network dedicated to increasing positive awareness of Down syndrome and providing free, purposeful programming that empowers individuals with Down syndrome to achieve their goals and thrive in their communities. We are looking for volunteers for our life skills and community focused class, GiGi's Achievers.
About GiGi’s Achievers: GiGi’s Achievers is a purpose-driven program for adults with Down syndrome (18+) focused on building independence, confidence, communication, and meaningful connections within the community. Through hands-on activities, community outings, and volunteer opportunities, participants develop practical life skills while having fun and building lasting friendships.
GiGi’s Achievers Volunteers: We’re looking for enthusiastic, dependable volunteers to join us on Tuesdays from 3:30–5:30PM and help create a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive experience for our participants.
Volunteer Responsibilities:
- Support participants during community outings, activities, and hands-on projects
- Encourage independence, communication, and self-advocacy
- Help participants practice daily living, social, and teamwork skills
- Participate alongside the group during community experiences and service projects
- Foster a positive environment where participants feel confident, included, and empowered
- Assist with program setup, organization, and other classroom needs as needed
Qualifications:
- Enthusiastic, patient, dependable, and comfortable working with adults with Down syndrome
- Positive attitude and strong communication skills
- Comfortable participating in community outings and walking with the group
- Willing to encourage independence and support participants without doing tasks for them
- Must be willing to complete and pass a background check
- No prior experience working with individuals with Down syndrome is required—training and guidance will be provided
Fall Semester Schedule: Tuesdays, 3:30–5:30PM, from September 8–December 15
Fall Semester Dates:
- September 8, 22, 29
- October 6, 20, 27
- November 3, 17
- December 1, 15
Volunteers are asked to attend regularly throughout the semester.
This is a wonderful opportunity to build meaningful relationships, gain experience in an inclusive community setting, and make a direct impact in the lives of adults with Down syndrome. We’re looking for volunteers who believe in acceptance, inclusion, independence, and creating opportunities for everyone to thrive!
