About Mentor A Promise
Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a nonprofit organization supporting children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability in New York City. Through mentorship, social-emotional learning, academic enrichment, creative expression, and community partnerships, MAP creates safe, consistent, and empowering spaces where young people can thrive.
Our mission is to empower youth experiencing housing instability through mentorship, education, and community—building resilience and opening pathways to stability, opportunity, and hope.
Role Overview
The Mentor A Promise Run Club brings together runners and walkers who believe movement can be a force for good. Whether you are training for races, enjoying casual group runs, or moving at your own pace, this club is about showing up with intention and turning miles into meaningful impact.
Run Club volunteers participate in group runs, individual fitness challenges, and community events to raise awareness and support for MAP’s mission. All experience levels are welcome.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in Run Club activities, group runs, or personal fitness challenges
- Serve as a positive ambassador for Mentor A Promise and its mission
- Support awareness-building and optional peer fundraising initiatives
- Share mission-aligned messaging through community or social platforms (optional)
- Communicate participation and availability with MAP staff as needed
- Uphold MAP’s values, conduct standards, and safeguarding expectations
Qualifications
- Interest in running, walking, or fitness at any level
- Reliability and follow-through on commitments
- Ability to represent a youth-serving nonprofit with care and integrity
- Alignment with MAP’s equity-driven, community-centered values
Preferred Skills
- Experience with run clubs, charity runs, or wellness communities
- Interest in cause-based advocacy or peer fundraising
- Comfort engaging with community storytelling or outreach
Commitment
- Volunteer role with flexible scheduling
- Approximately 5–10 hours per week
- Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
- Remote participation encouraged; optional NYC-area group runs available
