POSITION:
SacPride Festival Captain
REPORTS TO:
Pride Committee Lead, Pride Director, Volunteer Services Manager
COMMITMENT:
Training in April & May; June 12 – 15, 2026
SUMMARY:
Festival Captains are frontline volunteer leaders for Sacramento Pride. Captains supervise and support volunteers within a designated functional area (e.g., beverage, ticketing, gates, hospitality, etc.) and are responsible for ensuring their area operates smoothly, safely, and in alignment with event expectations.
Captains are expected to participate in either the festival set-up and daily opening procedures or evening reset and festival breakdown operations.
Captains report directly to their assigned Committee Lead in their area.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Volunteer Supervision
- Directly supervise volunteers during assigned shifts
- Provide quick on-site orientation and task clarification
- Monitor performance and morale
- Address minor concerns; escalate larger issues
Operations
- Oversee setup, active operations, and breakdown for assigned area
- Monitor supplies and staffing needs
- Support crowd flow and guest experience
- Ensure adherence to safety and event policies
Communication
- Maintain active communication with Committee Lead
- Relay updates, concerns, or incidents promptly
- Attend required Captain briefings
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Prior SacPride or large event experience preferred
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to maintain calm under pressure
- Ability to stand/walk for extended periods outdoors
REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience working with the LGBTQ+ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ+ people.
- Passion for The Center’s mission and work to create a region where LGBTQ+ people thrive, and a commitment to follow all policies and procedures of the organization.
- Respect for everyone’s real or perceived sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression, including pronouns.
- Commitment to anti-racism and racial equity.
- Ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, socioeconomic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration statuses, and physical abilities in an intersectional environment.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; fluency to read, write, speak, and hear English.
- Business Casual attire and closed-toed shoes required.
- Physical Demands: Volunteers in this role will be required to convey detailed spoken instructions to others accurately, and to hear, understand, and distinguish in-person speech, lift up to 50lbs, use computers and office equipment.
