Overview: The majority of volunteers work as classroom assistants. Classroom assistants are placed with a particular teacher and grade throughout their stay. As a classroom assistant, you would prepare teaching materials, help with classroom management, assist with lessons, and work one-on-one with kids who need extra help. You can work as an English Classroom Assistant or a Spanish Classroom Assistant, depending on your language level. You do not need to know Spanish, but a working knowledge is an advantage. You must work as a Classroom Assistant for a minimum of 1 week.
Requirements: A flexible approach to work; the ability to work as part of a team but also on your own initiative; positive outlook; enjoy working with children and have an appreciation of the pressures and demands within the academic work environment.
Level of Spanish: None necessary as a prerequisite for the English classrooms, but a working knowledge is a huge advantage. For the Spanish class rooms intermediate Spanish is requiered.
