OSINT Case Assessment Analyst - Missing Person

Time Commitment: Flexible (Minimum 1 hour per week)

    Who We Are

Night Owl Reconnaissance (NOR) is a grassroots nonprofit organization that uses open-source intelligence (OSINT) and investigative analysis to locate missing persons, support recoveries, and improve public understanding of these cases. Our volunteers work collaboratively with families, advocacy groups, and law enforcement to bring structure, accuracy, and compassion to investigations.

    About the Role

The OSINT Case Evaluation Analyst helps identify, research, and prepare missing persons cases for NOR’s investigative teams. You will evaluate case listings, verify data, and conduct light OSINT research to build structured “Case Snapshots.” These snapshots summarize known details, highlight investigative challenges, and guide future research efforts.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Identify and review missing persons cases using the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) and other public sources.
    • Confirm that each case meets NOR’s criteria for investigation, including age range, length of disappearance, and law enforcement verification.
    • Gather factual information from reliable online sources such as media articles, press releases, or social media posts.
    • Verify and cross-check information to ensure accuracy and prevent duplication of effort across the team.
    • Compile case summaries following NOR’s Snapshot template, documenting verified facts, open questions, and potential next steps.
    • Record and cite all sources used in research to maintain transparency and accountability.
    • Collaborate with fellow analysts and investigators to prioritize cases and refine case materials as new information emerges.

    Qualifications

    • Growing or strong snalytical and research skills with attention to accuracy and detail.
    • Familiarity with social media, search engines, and public record databases.
    • Clear and professional writing skills.
    • Ability to handle sensitive or emotional material with discretion and empathy.
    • Prior experience in research, investigation, or intelligence is helpful but not required.

    Why Volunteer with NOR

This volunteer position offers meaningful opportunities to contribute to real missing persons work while learning structured OSINT techniques. Volunteers receive guidance, training materials, and mentorship from experienced investigators. The role is flexible and remote, allowing you to participate at your own pace while helping families and communities gain clarity in unresolved cases.
