Help Preserve the History and Legacy of Think Round
Think Round, Inc. is a San Francisco-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to cultivate the fullest potential of home and family through art and science.
Our guiding code of ethics is simple:

For more than three decades, Think Round has developed educational programs, public art installations, exhibitions, publications, curriculum, photographs, videos, organizational records, and historical documents that tell the story of our work in communities throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.
Our archives reflect more than thirty years of active programming, multiple studio moves, changing technologies, and the realities of operating a small nonprofit organization. We are seeking someone who enjoys uncovering connections, organizing historical materials, and helping preserve Think Round's story for future generations.
This is an opportunity to help build the foundation of Think Round's long-term Institutional Archives.
Position Overview
The Digital Archivist / Institutional Archivist will work with the Executive Director and volunteers to organize, preserve, and make accessible Think Round's historical records, publications, photographs, artwork documentation, videos, financial summaries, and organizational history.
The successful candidate will help transform decades of valuable materials into a well-organized digital archive that can serve Board members, staff, volunteers, researchers, community partners, and future generations.
Primary Responsibilities
- Organize Think Round's digital archives using a clear and consistent folder structure.
- Develop logical file naming conventions and archival standards.
- Create searchable inventories and indexes of archival materials.
- Organize historical Board documents, Annual Reports, strategic plans, newsletters, publications, grant materials, financial summaries, and institutional records.
- Preserve photographs, artwork documentation, exhibition catalogs, publicity materials, videos, and audio recordings.
- Help organize and archive materials related to Think Round's major initiatives, including:
- The Children's Mural Program (CMP)
- KEEP! (Kid's Environmental Education Program)
- STREAM
- Teen Theater Arts Program (TTAP)
- Family Arts Program (FAP)
- The Human Family Tree
- The Paradise Project
- Think Round Fine Arts
- The Center for the Human Family
- Assist in developing a comprehensive institutional timeline documenting major milestones, exhibitions, grants, awards, partnerships, publications, and organizational growth.
- Identify historically significant documents and recommend long-term preservation strategies.
- Help establish digital backup and archival procedures to protect Think Round's institutional history.
- Collaborate with volunteers across multiple teams to gather, organize, and preserve historical materials.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in one or more of the following areas is helpful:
- Library Science
- Archival Studies
- Museum Studies
- History
- Information Science
- Records Management
- Digital Asset Management
- Knowledge Management
- Research
- Project Management
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and an appreciation for preserving historical records are more important than any particular degree or software experience.
Time Commitment
Approximately 4–8 hours per week with a flexible schedule.
Most collaboration takes place remotely using Google Drive, Dropbox, and Zoom.
