A Companionship Volunteer - what does that entail?

it’s all about giving your attentive presence to another - you focus on your assigned patient to be a "companion". We’re looking for people with big hearts, who are good listeners, and okay with just sitting with someone at times. Our Orientation is ALL online. We request that you have approximately 1-3 hours per week available, when assigned, have good boundaries and the ability to keep visits confidential. Our volunteers often say, "I have gained more from volunteer work than I have ever given." Connecting over shared interest, playing some cribbage, watching a football game, helping organize pictures, reminiscing, providing support while a Caregiver gets groceries or takes a needed nap, reading a book out loud, or helping write some letters. Each assignment is unique.

If you are also a veteran, you will have the opportunity to support another veteran who is now a Hospice patient. Allina Hospice is a Level 4 for We Honor Vets. We are committed to excellent service to our veterans at end of life.
