The Learning Center (TLC) serves adults from the North Lawndale and Little Village communities in Chicago, supporting their journey toward more confident, empowered lives through education.
We’re looking for Volunteer Tutors who believe in the power of education to change lives. No teaching experience? No problem. The only thing you need is a positive attitude and a willingness to learn, we’ll provide the training and support you need.
TLC offers free Adult Basic Education (ABE), High School Equivalency (HSE), and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes in partnership with Malcolm X College, part of City Colleges of Chicago. We also offer Spanish Literacy and Computer Literacy classes independently.
Volunteer tutors work under the guidance of experienced educators and staff, helping adult learners strengthen their reading, math, and English skills so they can earn their High School Equivalency Certificate (GED). You can tutor in person or online in reading, math, and/or ESL.
In-person tutoring takes place at 2153 S. Millard Avenue, Monday through Thursday, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
Online tutoring is available via Zoom during evening and weekend hours, based on student needs.
If you're ready to make a difference, connect with our Program Manager, Miriam Gonzalez, at mgonzalez@tlchicago.org or call (773) 277-3111.
Let’s strengthen our community-one learner at a time.
