Music Trainer Volunteer Internship — BUVAD Community-Based Organization

About Us
BUVAD is a community-based organization located and operating in Kayunga District, Uganda. We work with local out-of-school youth, providing them with practical music skills training that builds confidence, creativity, and livelihood opportunities. Beyond training, we are in the process of forming a music band to stage fundraising shows that will help sustain our programs and uplift the community.
About the Role
We are looking for passionate volunteer trainers and interns to join our music skills program. Volunteers will work directly with local youth, delivering hands-on training in various music disciplines. This is an excellent opportunity for musicians, educators, and performing artists who want to make a tangible impact while experiencing life in rural Uganda.
Responsibilities
- Train and mentor local out-of-school youth in music performance and theory
- Lead workshops and practice sessions in your area(s) of expertise
- Support the formation and rehearsal of a community music band for fundraising shows
- Collaborate with local staff to plan training schedules and performance goals
- Help identify and nurture talented youth for solo and group performances
- Participate in cultural exchange and share knowledge with the broader community

Who You Are (Qualifications)
- Skilled in at least one of the music disciplines listed above
- Some teaching, coaching, or mentoring experience is a plus — but a willingness to share your skills is what matters most
- Patient, adaptable, and comfortable working with youth in a resource-limited setting
- Open-minded and eager to experience life in a rural Ugandan community
- Able to commit to a minimum stay of 1 week (maximum 4 weeks)
- 18 years or older

What You'll Need to Arrange
- Travel to Kayunga District, Uganda (we can advise on the best route from Entebbe Airport or Kampala)
- Meals and personal expenses during your stay
- Travel insurance and any required vaccinations (please consult your healthcare provider)
- Any personal instruments or teaching materials you'd like to use (though some basic instruments may be available on-site)
