Diaper and Clothing Bank Volunteer
Detalhes
Descrição
A Family Place (AFP), located in Yamhill County, Oregon, offers a Relief Nursery that maintains an organized, inviting, family-friendly, and trauma-informed Diaper Bank/Clothing Closet of diapers, used/new children’s and maternity clothing, and other essential items available to enrolled and potential AFP families during regularly posted hours. Each Diaper Bank/Clothing Closet is open and operational to families from 10 am-12 pm weekly on Thursdays, which we call Bank Days.
The Diaper Bank/Clothing Closet Volunteer’s primary role is to provide general staffing of Diaper Bank Preparation, Bank Days, or Diaper Transportation.
Diaper Bank/Clothing Closet Volunteer Opportunities:
- Our Diaper Bank/Clothing Closets are housed in the same location as the Relief Nursery Classroom sites: McMinnville (MAC), Newberg, and Willamina.
- Volunteer Schedule: Thursdays from 9 am-12 pm at MAC or 10 am-12 pm in Newberg or Willamina.
- Bank Day Volunteers: are expected to arrive 10-15 minutes before the start and stay 10-15 minutes after the end of Diaper Bank as needed to help with set-up and clean-up.
- MAC Preparation Volunteers: MAC is our largest Diaper Bank and requires preparation for Diaper Bank be done on a separate day (typically Tuesday or Wednesday mornings). The other sites prepare diapers and sort donations during Bank Days.
- Diaper Bank Transportation Volunteers: help in transporting diapers and clothing from storage to sites, from site to site, or transporting diapers to off-site bundler groups.
- Minimum commitment of one shift per month but preference is two shifts a month.
Essential Job Functions / Major Job Responsibilities:
- Provide a safe, welcoming environment for families during Bank Days by greeting each client with a warm welcome and smile.
- Support families with signing into the Microsoft Form sign-in sheet.
- Assist AFP staff in getting the supplies that they need from the Diaper Bank/Clothing Closet for the classroom or for home visitors.
- Diaper Bank Preparation: Bundling diapers/wipes, sorting and hanging up clothes on the racks, preparing layettes, laundering donations as needed, and providing general clean-up of the space.
- Attend Diaper Bank Volunteer Gatherings.
All Diaper Bank/Clothing Closet Volunteers Should:
- Determine whether serving the public directly is your interest or if you would rather only have a non-public facing role such as Diaper Bank Preparation or Transportation.
- Direct difficult situations or behaviors from families or children to AFP staff.
- Provide bilingual support if able.
- Be reliable and show up when scheduled or communicate as soon as possible when unable to fulfill a scheduled shift.
- Be respectful, open, unbiased, and accepting attitude toward clients and their families
