    Descrição

Bloom Hospice is seeking compassionate, reliable volunteers to support our After-Hours (AH) 11th Hour Program. These volunteers provide a calming presence for patients who are nearing end of life and offer supportive companionship to families during evenings, nights, weekends, and other after-hours times. This role is focused on vigil support—ensuring that patients and families are not alone during the final stages of life. Due to the nature of after-hours care, volunteers must be comfortable working more independently while maintaining close communication with the on-call hospice team.

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide a calm, supportive presence for patients who are actively dying or nearing end of life
    • Offer emotional support and reassurance to family members and loved ones
    • Sit vigil at bedside, ensuring no patient dies alone when possible
    • Communicate any changes, concerns, or needs to the After-Hours On-Call (AOC) nurse
    • Maintain a peaceful, respectful environment in alignment with patient and family wishes
    • Support a comforting atmosphere (quiet presence, conversation if appropriate, reading, music, etc.)
    • Adhere to all safety protocols, boundaries, and patient privacy policies

    Important Role Boundaries:

Volunteers in this role provide presence and emotional support only. They do not provide hands-on care. Volunteers may NOT:

    • Perform personal care (turning, bathing, toileting, etc.)
    • Administer or assist with medications
    • Provide medical advice or interpret clinical information • Replace clinical staff responsibilities

    Qualifications:

    • Compassionate, calm, and emotionally grounded demeanor
    • Ability to sit with patients and families during end-of-life moments
    • Strong communication skills and ability to follow direction
    • Comfortable working evenings, nights, weekends, or on short notice
    • Ability to maintain composure in emotionally intense situations
    • Willingness to follow clear escalation protocols and ask for support when

    Benefits:

    • Comprehensive training and orientation program
    • Opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals and their families
    • Ongoing support from a dedicated volunteer coordinator
    • Eligibility for special recognition and awards
