Help Shape the Visual Voice of a Historic New York City Park

The Stuyvesant Park Neighborhood Association (SPNA) is seeking a creative Volunteer Graphic Designer to help tell the story of one of Manhattan’s most beloved historic parks.

Working closely with the Communications Chair and Community Digital Engagement Manager, you’ll create compelling visual content that promotes free public events, celebrates neighborhood life, supports community initiatives, and strengthens SPNA’s visual identity across digital and print platforms.

Whether you’re building your portfolio, looking to apply your design skills for community impact, or simply love great design, this is an opportunity to see your work shared with thousands of New Yorkers.

What You’ll Do

As SPNA’s Volunteer Graphic Designer, you will:

• Design promotional graphics for community events
• Create social media graphics for Instagram, Facebook, Threads, Bluesky, and other platforms
• Develop flyers, posters, and digital signage
• Design email newsletter graphics and website banners
• Adapt existing branding into cohesive visual campaigns
• Create occasional infographics or educational graphics for park initiatives
• Prepare graphics optimized for multiple digital platforms
• Collaborate with photographers and communications volunteers to incorporate event photography into promotional materials
• Maintain consistency with SPNA’s visual identity and branding standards

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking someone who:

• Has experience with Canva
• Possesses strong visual communication skills
• Can create clean, engaging, and accessible designs
• Is organized, collaborative, and responsive
• Can work independently while meeting reasonable deadlines
• Has an interest in community organizations, public spaces, arts, or neighborhood life

Preferred (but not required):

• Experience designing for nonprofits or community organizations
• Familiarity with social media graphic specifications
• Lives in or near New York City

Time Commitment

• Approximately 3–5 hours per week
• Flexible scheduling
• Occasional additional design support during major events or seasonal campaigns

Most work can be completed remotely.
