1:1 Reading Support Tutor
Detalhes
Descrição
Learning for ALL (LFA) is seeking committed volunteers who are passionate about helping adults in our community attain strong reading skills. Reading tutors work one on one with adult learners (native English speakers) who need assistance to improve their basic reading and writing skills. Students in this program receive instruction in decoding (sounding out words) using a structured literacy curriculum. Tutors meet weekly with their student for an hour to hour and a half per meeting. LFA will provide structured literacy training as well as an evidence-based curriculum to use with your student. This is a unique opportunity to help a group in our community that is hugely underserved.
Requirements:
- Attend a six-week virtual training (12 hours total) on reading instruction
- Commit to volunteering weekly with your student for at least six months, ideally a year
- Agree to utilize the provided curriculum which focuses on decoding skills
- Maintain communication with your co-tutor for the duration of your tutoring
