TutorX is an online platform dedicated to providing free tutoring for students, by students. All volunteers for this organization are students.
TutorX is looking for 1-3 Technology Officers who can advance TutorX’s mission of free, online tutoring for students, by students. As a Technology Officer, you will be responsible for implementing new programs that can automate and simplify operation workflows for our organization. The Technology Officer role is a volunteer-only position, meaning you will not be paid. However, you will gain valuable technical experience and leadership skills. The written application is due by August 20 at 11:59 PM EDT. Please read through this entire document before applying.
Below are some basic requirements that you must fulfill in order to be considered for this position.
Requirements:
- You must be a student who is currently in high school or higher education (14 years or older).
- Fluency in English.
- You must be responsible, adaptable, and ready to learn.
- Have taken at least one coding class/completed one coding project.
- Willing to learn database management skills.
- Willing to use AI tools such as Codex or Claude to code.
Optional but preferred:
- Have experience with relational databases, SQL, and/or MySQL.
- Have experience with web development and/or HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Note: If you do not have these optional but preferred qualifications, we still strongly encourage you to apply. What matters to us most is that you are willing to learn how to employ these tools.
Role Details
Responsibilities:
- Develop new software to help operations run more smoothly.
- Implement creative technology-driven solutions to advance TutorX’s mission.
- Create and maintain a relational database to securely store tutor and tutee information, code a tutor-tutee matching system. **This will be your first project.
- Update TutorX.us website.

Other Details:
- The Technology Officer role is an unpaid position, as TutorX is a volunteer-only position.
