Pet Therapy Volunteer – Bring Comfort Through the Healing Power of Animals

Caring Hospice of Massachusetts is seeking compassionate Pet Therapy Volunteers to visit hospice patients in their homes and assisted living facilities throughout our service area.

For many patients, a visit from a therapy animal can reduce anxiety, ease loneliness, encourage meaningful conversation, and provide moments of peace and connection. Pet therapy visits offer comfort not only to patients, but to their families and caregivers as well.

What You'll Do

• Visit hospice patients with your certified therapy animal.
• Provide companionship, comfort, and emotional support.
• Share the calming and healing benefits of animal-assisted visits.
• Coordinate your schedule with our Volunteer Coordinator based on your availability.
• Document completed visits according to hospice guidelines.

Qualifications:

• Handler and animal must be registered or certified through a recognized therapy animal organization.
• Animal must be current on all required vaccinations and in good health.
• Comfortable visiting patients in private homes and assisted living communities.
• Ability to complete hospice volunteer orientation, background screening, and onboarding requirements.

• Flexible scheduling- time commitment can be as little as one day a month.
