Role Overview:
The Volunteer Coordinator supports Vegan Scouts by recruiting, onboarding, supporting, and communicating with volunteers. This role helps ensure that volunteers feel appreciated, informed, and engaged, while also organizing systems that make volunteering accessible and sustainable.
Key Responsibilities:
- Recruit volunteers through community outreach, social media, events, and referrals
- Onboard new volunteers (including responding to interest forms, scheduling intro calls, and guiding them through getting started)
- Maintain a volunteer database (e.g., Google Sheets)
- Match volunteers to roles/tasks based on interests, skills, and availability
- Communicate regularly with volunteers via email, chat, and meetings
- Collaborate with other organizers to identify volunteer needs
- Create and update volunteer materials (handbooks, FAQs, onboarding docs)
- Support retention through check-ins, appreciation efforts, and engagement
- Track volunteer hours (if needed for grants, recognition, or accountability)
- Help facilitate training and orientation sessions (live or recorded)
- Coordinate with Event Leads to ensure adequate volunteer staffing
- Organize, coordinate, and manage event volunteers, day of
Time Commitment:
~5-10 hours/week (flexible, seasonal variation expected)
Skills/Qualities:
- Friendly and organized
- Good written and verbal communication
- Comfortable using Google Workspace, Calendly, email tools, etc.
- Alignment with Vegan Scouts’ mission and values
