St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center has opportunities for education students, ages 18+ interested in volunteering as a lead Critter Camp counselor https://www.sthuberts.org/kids-camps at our Madison location (575 Woodland Ave.). This opportunity for aspiring educators can help build a professional portfolio in a real-world setting by gaining hands-on experience helping to run an engaging kids' summer camp
Critter Camps are designed to educate and inspire youth to practice a lifestyle of compassion, respect, and empathy through the humane treatment of animals. We emphasize responsible pet care and foster children’s understanding and concern for all species. St. Hubert’s hosts Critter Camps for elementary aged children (grades 3-9).
Qualifications:
- Must be 18+ years old
- Experience working with children
- Strong interest in the education field
- Familiarity with animal welfare and animal sheltering
- Strong communication and social skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; high energy
- CPR/ First Aid certified preferred
- Demonstrate creativity and resourcefulness, ability to motivate children, positive attitude
- Excellent role model
Responsibilities Essential Functions:
- Participate in pre-camp training
- Work cooperatively with volunteer teen camp counselors
- Supervise campers, ensuring safety, well-being, and engagement in age-appropriate activities
- Lead and facilitate various camp activities, i.e. games, crafts, lessons
- Other duties as requested
Specifications:
- Frequent walking, sitting, standing during camp hours
- Some camp activities take place outdoors in environments not climate controlled
- Animals will often be present during camp presentations/lessons
Summer camp weeks are listed below. To be considered, volunteers must be able to volunteer for 2 weeks, and attend one of the mandatory training sessions.
