The Social Media Director plans, creates, and manages content across all organizational social media platforms. This role develops messaging strategies, oversees posting schedules, interacts with followers, and ensures our brand voice remains compassionate, educational, and mission-driven. The ideal candidate is creative, organized, and passionate about wildlife.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a social media strategy to support education, events, volunteer recruitment, and fundraising
- Create engaging content (photos, videos, reels, captions, stories, graphics) featuring birds, programs, and behind-the-scenes updates
- Maintain a weekly content calendar and posting schedule across platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, TikTok)
- Monitor messages, comments, and mentions — responding promptly and positively
- Track growth analytics, engagement trends, and adjust strategy as needed
- Follow best practices for wildlife handling and safety in media content
- Coordinate with facility staff to ensure accurate and approved messaging about birds and rescues
- Promote upcoming events, campaigns, adopt-a-bird donations, and educational initiatives
- Maintain consistent brand style, tone, and messaging
- Ensure compliance with privacy, copyright, and nonprofit guidelines
- Collaborate with photographers, videographers, and marketing volunteers
Qualifications
- Experience with social media management (personal or professional)
- Strong writing and storytelling skills
- Basic photo/video editing skills (mobile apps or desktop tools)
- Ability to capture or curate compelling wildlife imagery
- Excellent organization and time-management
- Positive communication style; ability to interact with diverse audiences
- Familiarity with conservation or animal welfare messaging (preferred)
Schedule
- Flexible and mostly remote. Some on-site interaction may be needed for content capture.
