    Descrição

Work on Climate (WoCl) is a leading non-profit focused on mobilizing humanity’s talent to build a regenerative, climate-positive economy.

You probably know us for our online community — the world’s largest climate career and action community — which has helped thousands of people find climate jobs, start companies, and build impactful networks. We’ve been featured in Fast Company, the New York Times, Wired, and more.

But our work is entering a new chapter beyond helping individuals find climate jobs.

We’re now supporting professionals to engage in climate leadershiporganizing, mobilizing, and transforming whole sectors and regions toward regenerative futures, through regional chapters of issue-focused work. (Read more about this transition here: https://workonclimate.org/2025/12/17/where-work-on-climate-is-headed/).

    About the team

Today, our community activities team is geo-located internationally and meets once weekly on Tuesdays at 10am PT. We are upgrading all our events to truly connect people who can help each other move ideas into action, and to build durable work relationships and collaborations that continue beyond the session.

    Role Summary

Event coordinators are responsible for leading about one online event every 4-6 weeks. These might be co-hosted with partner organizations or part of an ongoing Work on Climate program, but they always involve coordinating with external guests, delegating tasks across the volunteer team, and handling the needed technical setup and support.

    Time commitment

    • 5 hours/week consistently for the next 6+ months (We’d like a minimum of 6 months, and love it when volunteers stay on longer). Ability to commit to some specific events at specific times.
    • Weekly meeting attendance is required (See meeting time above in the “About the team” section)

    What’s in it for me?

In addition to playing a critical role in enabling the climate talent transition, you will get to:

    • Work directly with inspiring community members, partner organizations, and guest speakers across the climate space
    • Grow practical skills in community building, facilitation, and running engaging group experiences, plus the technical ops that make them run smoothly (event tech setup, tools/workflows, and troubleshooting).
    • Build a strong climate network in your area of interest
    • Collaborate with top-notch teammates passionate about climate
    • Add a strong line to your resume that employers recognize and respect

    What will I do?

You will collaborate with other WoCl volunteer teams to design and deliver online community activities such as events and workshops. These activities support members in their climate career and leadership journey, while creating the time and space for people to build real relationships and collaborate with other climate professionals. You may do some or all of the following:

    • As a Community Activities volunteer, your focus will be on planning and running end-to-end experiences. This includes shaping the topic and format, coordinating speakers or participants, and working with teammates on outreach, audience development, and communications.
    • You will also support live delivery, including managing the run-of-show, handling logistics and event tech, troubleshooting issues as they arise, and keeping the experience smooth and welcoming. (Activities typically align with US and European time zones.)
    • You should be comfortable facilitating groups, for example moderating discussions, guiding workshops or breakout sessions, managing Q&A, and keeping participants engaged, included, and on track.
    • You will support the behind-the-scenes technical and operational work, including setting up registration and comms, managing event tools and links, preparing materials (slides/docs), and handling post-event follow-ups (feedback, notes, recordings, and a simple wrap-up).

What skills and commitment do I need?

You will need to be highly self-motivated and capable of breaking down large tasks into smaller components, prioritizing your work, and identifying when you need help (and asking for it!).

    • Strong organization and project management (planning, prioritizing, and follow-through).
    • Experience designing and coordinating virtual community activities end-to-end (topic, audience, format, guests/partners).
    • Confident logistics + task coordination, including delegating and closing out pre- and post-activity tasks (Asana or similar).
    • Technical ops comfort: Zoom setup, registration/comms tools, and post-event follow-up (recordings, notes, feedback).
    • Reliable weekly participation and clear communication across different work and communication styles.

    Common Challenges

    • Event management involves many moving parts across multiple tools and teammates, so it can take time to keep everything aligned.
    • Coordination with guest speakers or partner organizations can create delays or miscommunication that blocks key steps (timing, format, materials, permissions).
    • Things change quickly, and you often need to adapt in real time. A guest may cancel, a key detail may shift late, or participants may run into access or tech issues.
    • Working across time zones and doing a lot of work asynchronously can make collaboration more challenging, and requires clear expectations around updates and response times.

I’m interested! What do I do?

Yay! We’re excited to learn more about you. Please fill out this application form to tell us about your skills and interests in volunteering with our awesome team. If you’re excited about the role but don’t meet every requirement, we still encourage you to apply. We strive to reach out to applicants within 1 to 2 weeks.
