About Mentor A Promise
Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a NYC-based nonprofit serving children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability through mentorship, literacy, social-emotional learning, and creative expression. At MAP, accessibility is not an afterthought—it is a core value and operational priority.
MAP’s programs, educational materials, books, media, events, and physical spaces are designed to be accessible, dignified, and responsive to the full range of human sensory experiences.
Role Overview
The Sensory Accessibility Coordinator supports MAP’s Disability Justice & Accessibility Team by assessing and strengthening sensory accessibility across all departments. This role works closely with the Digital Accessibility Coordinator and Physical Accessibility Coordinator to ensure a holistic, integrated approach to accessibility.
The Coordinator evaluates how MAP’s digital platforms, physical spaces, events, and programs support diverse sensory needs, including sensory sensitivity, sensory-seeking behaviors, and sensory overload, and provides practical, dignity-centered recommendations for improvement.
Department-by-department accessibility audits are conducted biweekly, with all Accessibility roles collaborating on unified reports that integrate digital, physical, and sensory findings. Progress is tracked through weekly Disability Justice Team check-ins.
