    ROLE TITLE: Grant Writer

    REPORTS TO: Finance Manager/CFO

    LOCATION: Remote/Olympia, Washington State

    LEVEL/SALARY: Volunteer (with pathway to paid role)

    DESIRED HOURS: Monday through Saturday, Part-time Flexible Hours, 10am-2pm PST

    ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION: C.A.R.E. Wellness Center & Services

    C.A.R.E. Wellness Center is a 501(c)3 nonprofit charity with a mission of providing a safe farm stay, holistic retreat, and wellness programs for BIPOC community and allies for equality. Its programs are focused on persons of color and work with vulnerable populations such as BIPOC with justice-involvement, foster youth, and those suffering mental health challenges. The person in this role must be sensitive to these populations and center their duties on wellness.

    Our Mission is to provide a safe farm stay, holistic retreat, and wellness programs for black, indigenous, people of color and allies, to recover from Post-Traumatic Slave Syndrome via Spirituality, AgroTourism, and Racial Justice.

    Our Vision is Connectivity: to Nature; to God; and to Self. Our goal of acquiring farmland is to establish a safe spiritual retreat for people of color to escape constant trauma and begin repairing their fractured foundation and realize self-actualization. Our programs are a research community project with a goal of empowering others to heal from PTSS.

    The Founder, Chair, and CEO is a woman of color, Pansexual, and person with disabilities fully committed to the growth of both C.A.R.E. Wellness Center (nonprofit) and C.A.R.E. Family Services, LLC (for-profit), also doing direct services for children and youth. We highly encourage an ethical, organized, and ambitious student or seasoned professional to help support the foundation of this new and unique nonprofit for the community. This is a home-based office welcoming volunteers, guests, and visitors for meetings while fundraising for farmland to headquarter wellness programs.

    JOB SUMMARY:

    The Grant Writer will research, draft, and submit compelling grant proposals to foundations, corporations, tribal entities, government agencies, and community partners to secure program, operations, and capital‑development funding for C.A.R.E.’s wellness initiatives.

    This role collaborates closely with the CEO, Finance Manager, Bookkeeper, Program Director, and Marketing & Development Teams to ensure alignment across budgets, narratives, impact metrics, and program design. This is a remote volunteer position that may transition into a paid position as grant funding increases.

    ROLE DESCRIPTION:

    We are seeking a skilled and detail‑oriented Grant Writer with a passion for social justice, community wellness, and land-based healing work. The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative environment, understands nonprofit language, and can translate program concepts into strong, data‑driven, fundable narratives.

    They will be responsible for building a grants pipeline, managing deadlines, ensuring compliance, tracking awarded funds, and supporting multi‑year fundraising strategies.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Grant Prospecting & Research
    • Identify funding opportunities from foundations, corporations, government agencies, tribal nations, and philanthropic networks.
    • Conduct research on grantor priorities, eligibility, and application requirements.
    • Maintain a living database of prospects using Notion CRM.
    • Proposal Writing & Submission
    • Write high-quality letters of intent (LOIs), grant narratives, budgets, and attachments.
    • Tailor proposals to reflect C.A.R.E.’s mission, wellness programs, land acquisition goals, and capacity‑building objectives.
    • Ensure all submitted materials meet funder guidelines and deadlines.
    • Budget Coordination
    • Collaborate with the Finance Manager and Bookkeeper (Waveapps.com) to prepare compliant budgets.
    • Align narrative requests with program needs, staffing plans, and financial projections.
    • Track restricted vs. unrestricted funding and ensure consistency across documents.
    • Grants Management & Reporting
    • Track grant deadlines, deliverables, approval statuses, and reporting requirements.
    • Draft interim and final reports for awarded grants, including impact, data collection, and financial summaries.
    • Work with Program staff to gather outcomes, metrics, and participant feedback.
    • Cross‑Team Collaboration
    • Meet regularly with the CEO and Executive Team to align funding requests with organizational strategy.
    • Coordinate with the Program Director to stay current on program launch timelines.
    • Support Development Team in fundraising campaigns, sponsorship outreach, and donor cultivation.
    • Communications & Storytelling
    • Gather testimonials, case studies, and cultural narratives that strengthen proposals.
    • Translate program goals into clear, funder‑friendly language.
    • Maintain consistency of voice and alignment with C.A.R.E.’s mission.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
    • Strong research and analytical abilities.
    • Ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
    • Understanding of nonprofit financials, budgets, and program design.
    • Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and with cultural humility.
    • Must maintain confidentiality and comply with grantor and organizational expectations.

    WORK CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    This position is primarily remote with optional in‑person meetings and occasional travel to partner sites, events, or quarterly program gatherings. Minimal physical requirements. Must be able to maintain digital organization and meet grant deadlines.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Required:
    • Demonstrated experience in grant writing OR strong writing background with willingness to learn.
    • Excellent communication, organization, and time‑management skills.
    • Ability to interpret program information and craft compelling narratives.
    • Preferred:
    • Experience with nonprofits, community wellness, racial equity, agriculture, or social justice programs.
    • Familiarity with federal, state, and local grant systems.
    • Grant prospecting experience and knowledge of philanthropic landscape.
    • Other Requirements:
    • Must pass a background check and sign confidentiality/privacy agreements.
