Overview of Position: Provide short-term support to CarePartners living with HIV outside of the TIHAN office. Specialize in advocacy, visits, occasional transportation, information and referral, and emotional/social support.
Benefits to the Volunteer: A great opportunity to provide a response to the needs of diverse CarePartners on an occasional, as-needed basis.
Specific Tasks:
- Assist home-bound or hospitalized CarePartners with completing the TIHAN registration form and provide them with an overview of TIHAN programs and services.
- Inform CarePartners of how to navigate social services in the HIV community and connect them to resources they need by making appropriate referrals.
- Coordinate home delivery of CarePackages
- Provide transportation to CarePartners as needed/available for medical appointments, errands/shopping, and support services.
- Inform CarePartners about relevant educational/social events and help them enroll in any TIHAN classes and programs
- Triage emergency situations.
- Communicate outcomes of CarePartner visits to Program Coordinator.
- Attend occasional meetings of Link Specialists and Program Coordinator.
Time Required: Flexible, on-call need and availability. Approximately 1 to 2 hours per week, not necessarily within TIHAN’s regular office hours of 8:30am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday.
Qualifications/Experience:
Preferred: Knowledge of local community resources. Ability to get around well within the Tucson area. Experience working with people living with HIV/AIDS.
Required: Must be 18 years or older. Proof of auto insurance and dependable transportation. Comfortable interacting with people from diverse backgrounds.
