About Us
The JakeyMac Foundation is a dynamic 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to transforming youth education through innovative, screen-free, audio-first learning, gamified education, team competitions, and vital career prep. We bridge the gaps left by traditional schooling by equipping underserved and under-resourced youth with high-paying STEM career pathways, critical problem-solving, resilience, leadership, and essential life safety skills (including digital safety and youth exploitation prevention).
Role Overview
We are seeking an Experienced Grant Writer to join our passionate team as a volunteer. In this role, you will help fuel our mission by researching, drafting, and submitting compelling grant proposals to foundations, corporations, and government entities. Your writing will directly help secure funding for our mobile-friendly, audio-based earbud style screen free learning programs, expanding our reach to vulnerable youth across the globe.
Key Responsibilities
- Grant Discovery: Identify and vet corporate, foundation, and government grant opportunities aligned with youth education, STEM readiness, digital safety, and underserved community outreach.
- Proposal Writing: Craft clear, persuasive, and data-driven grant applications, letters of inquiry (LOIs), and case statements.
- Collaboration: Work closely with our leaders to gather program metrics, financial details, and impact stories to build robust proposals.
- Pipeline Management: Maintain an organized calendar of grant deadlines, reporting requirements, and submission statuses.
Qualifications & Skills
- Proven experience in grant writing with a track record of securing funding from institutional donors (nonprofit sector experience preferred).
- Exceptional written communication skills with the ability to translate complex educational concepts into inspiring narratives.
- Strong organizational skills and acute attention to detail with deadlines.
- A deep passion for youth empowerment, alternative education models, and closing opportunity gaps for underserved youth allowing them to educate anywhere, anytime with nothing more than a smart phone and earbuds.

Follow the steps below to apply and get started.
Step 1: Prepare Your Materials
Before submitting, please make sure you have the following ready:
- Your Resume/CV: Highlighting your background in grant writing, fundraising, communications, or nonprofit development.
- A Writing Sample: A short excerpt (1 to 2 pages) from a previous successful grant proposal, letter of inquiry (LOI), or a piece of persuasive nonprofit copy.
Step 2: Submit Your Application
You can apply through two different channels:
- Via Idealist: Click the "I'm Interested" or "Apply" button directly on our Idealist posting and attach your documents.
- Via Email: If applying directly, send an email to our volunteer coordination team with the subject line: "Volunteer Grant Writer Application – [Your Full Name]".
Step 3: The Onboarding Process
Once we receive your application, here is what to expect next:
- Initial Review (3–5 Business Days): Our team will review your application and writing sample.
- Introductory Chat (15–20 minutes): If your experience aligns with our current funding goals, we’ll invite you to a brief virtual meeting (via Zoom or Google Meet) to discuss our upcoming grant pipeline, your availability, and how we can best support you.
- Welcome Packet & Orientation: Following the chat, you’ll receive our digital onboarding packet, background materials on the JakeyMac Foundation, and an invitation to our team communication platform.
