MLOV Youth Program Mentor/Volunteer
Detalhes
Descrição
MLOV's Youth community and programming is diverse, serving from Middle Schoolers through college students. We thus need support, mentors and volunteers with different backgrounds, interests, skills and availability. This application is to learn more about you, why you want to get involved, and to set up a conversation for us to see how that may or may not be possible. Thanks for your time!
About MLOV
Many Languages One Voice (MLOV) is located in the Columbia Heights and Petworth neighborhoods in Washington, D.C. Its mission is to build power with immigrant communities around issues that affect their lives. MLOV focuses on youth and parent leadership, language access, workers' rights, and case management.
The Challenge
Many young individuals in DC from immigrant communities face countless barriers in their academic and personal journeys. Challenges such as disengagement from school, family responsibilities, limited English proficiency and a lack of social connections often lead to immigrant youth and young adults not finishing or excelling in their education. These difficulties are made more intense by the personal experiences and traumas they've gone through, which can hinder their ability to integrate into local communities, find positive role models and know about the opportunities and resources around them.
The Role of Mentors & Volunteers
To address the unique obstacles faced by immigrant youth, Many Languages One Voice (MLOV) leans on mentors and volunteers to support and expand our programming. This can include individual mentoring, tutoring, college application coaching, professional coaching, special skills/talent workshops, and more general support with programs.
