One - three volunteer(s) bring the fun and plan + lead an enrichment activity for the children staying at the Nursery. Activities can include indoor or outdoor (weather permitting) games or sports, music, creative movement, arts & crafts, story time and more.
Volunteers must be 12 years of age or older. Volunteers who are 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult age 21 or older.
Time Commitment: Approximately 1 hour, plus prep time
Enrichment activities occur three times daily: at 9:00 am - 10:00 am, 10:30 am - 11:30 am, and 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm.

Part of working with the kids at the Nursery is that you never know quite who you’ll meet when you arrive! The Nursery has the capacity for up to 20 children. You can generally plan to have a group of 4-14 kiddos but the group size, ages, and attitudes of the kiddos vary greatly depending on the day. Also, the needs and plans of the staff may be different based on the group of kids they’re caring for. They may ask you to move locations, or it may be beneficial to make some changes to your activity based on the needs of the group. Know that this is all part of the process, and your flexibility is part of what makes this program so valuable for everyone involved! Please note - 10:30 am Enrichment is ideally outdoors [as weather permits].
Kids have short attention spans. If your activity doesn’t last the whole hour, or only some of the kids engage with it all the way through, you haven’t failed! You’re still exposing the kids to new fun things, and you have an opportunity after the activity ends to transition to something else, be it a book, a board game, or some free play. Staff appreciate it when you stay and engage with the kids for the full hour, even if your activity doesn’t last quite that long!
If you can, pick an activity that can be adapted for different ages. The age range of kids you could be doing enrichment with is 1-6 years, which is a huge range of developmental stages to be working with! As you’re not going to know which ages you will be working with in advance, it’s a good idea to pick activities that can be adapted for different ages and developmental levels.
You are in charge of gathering the materials for your activity! Unless you know for certain both that the Nursery has the materials you need and where those materials are located, it’s better to bring what you need yourself. That being said, you don’t need to bring much; some of the best activities come together from the simplest materials!
Available spaces include the art room, sensory room, gym, or outdoor spaces.
Please clean up the space when you are done. It’s your responsibility to gather your materials and return the space as closely to the way you found it as you can. Thank you!
