Animal Caregiver

What do our volunteers do? Besides feeding and providing clean housing for our residents, they give our pigs tummy rubs, brush goats, hang with chickens, read stories to our farm pigs, and much more! Please complete one of our volunteer forms below.

Tilted Tavern does not have a phone number or public hours. We also do not check this page frequently for connections. But we can be reached at tiltedtavernanimals@yahoo.com. Once the volunteer form has been completed, we will follow up with an email to determine a start date and time.

REQUIREMENTS

• Be able to commit to the shift(s) you signed up for (excluding holidays, emergencies, severe weather, etc.)
• Minimum commitment of three months (for recurring volunteers only)
• You must be 18 years or older to volunteer
• We do allow someone between 10 and 17 years old to volunteer as long as they are accompanied by their guardian that is 18 or older
• Sign a liability waiver in person
• Be able to withstand working outdoors for a few hours throughout the year in the rain, heat, and cold (within reason)
• Join our Discord TTAS Volunteer group to communicate with staff and volunteers (for recurring volunteers only)
• Thoroughly read our volunteer manual and agree to our policies
• Care for the animals in a gentle, compassionate, and respectful manner ​
• Participate in training before volunteering unsupervised

SHIFTS

• Morning - Starts between 8 and 9 am and can last 2 to 4 hours
• Afternoon/ Evening - Starts between 1 and 5 pm and can last 2 to 4 hours
• Times for shifts vary based on the time of year, weather, existing volunteers' schedule, and volunteer's preferences

Our goal is to educate and promote the importance of respecting every individual life through humane animal practices. All of our rescues will live out their lives at Tilted Tavern as we provide them a safe haven and lots of love and care. What have we rescued? We currently have cows, ducks, geese, chickens, horses, pigs, goats, and sheep along with one swan. Many of our animals are very social and crave attention and enrichment. This is where volunteers come into play. You can help us provide the forever home that they deserve! Our volunteers spend time preparing and feeding the daily ration, cleaning and helping us maintain the enclosures, and socializing and providing enrichment for our rescues.

We currently do not have any public restrooms or have handicap accessibility. We are part of the TN Achieves Program and can accommodate Volunteer Time Off (or similar employee volunteer programs). We may not be able to accommodate all court-ordered community service if they require a certain amount of hours in a limited time frame.
