    Company Description The Cadence Institute for Policy & Society is dedicated to advancing discovery and innovation through cutting-edge interdisciplinary research. Led by Dr. Edward Summers, the Institute focuses on key policy areas including HIV/AIDS funding, higher education, LGBTQAI+ issues, civil rights, and economic and community development. The organization brings together diverse perspectives to address complex social challenges and inform public policy. Potential interns can expect to join a mission-driven environment that values rigorous analysis, equity, and community impact.

    Role Description This remote (nonpaid) internship role as a Research and Policy Intern involves supporting ongoing research projects and policy initiatives across the Institute’s core focus areas. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting literature reviews, gathering and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data, and drafting research summaries, briefs, and memos for internal and external audiences. The intern will assist with preparing presentations, policy reports, and communication materials that translate research insights into accessible formats. The role may also involve monitoring legislative and policy developments, attending virtual meetings, and collaborating with team members to advance project goals.

    Qualifications

    • Strong Policy Research and general Research skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information from diverse sources.
    • Robust Analytical Skills, including basic data interpretation and critical thinking applied to social and economic issues.
    • Effective Communication skills, both written and verbal, for preparing policy briefs, reports, and presentations.
    • Foundational understanding of Economics or related social science fields, particularly as they relate to public policy and community development.
    • Interest in and/or familiarity with issues related to HIV/AIDS, higher education, LGBTQAI+, civil rights, and economic and community development.
    • Ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
    • Enrollment in or recent completion of a degree program in public policy, political science, economics, sociology, or a related discipline is preferred.
    • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and ethical research practices.
