This opportunity is best suited for individuals who can commit to long-term involvement (minimum 1 trimester: 13 weeks). It is not ideal for those looking for a one-time engagement.
The Adult Education Department of the Cultural Development and Wellness Center is a subsidiary of Aurora Mental Health and Recovery.
The Adult Education program is seeking classroom assistants for our ESL classes on Zoom. Classroom assistants support instructors by working with small groups of learners in breakout rooms, offering one-on-one assistance, and addressing other needs as requested by the teacher.
Teachers will prepare lessons; volunteers are not expected to do this. Classroom assistants must be willing to be flexible and able to move through a variety of directed tasks. They will never be expected to teach a whole class; they are only expected to facilitate prepared activities with small groups of students.
Currently, we need classroom assistants who are available during any of the days/times below:
We ask that all volunteers be available for at least one 2.5-hour class per week for the duration of a 13-week trimester. Online assistants must be comfortable using a computer and proficient with Zoom, as they will be expected to manage breakout rooms and share class materials on their screen. If you're not already familiar with these tools, training will be provided. All volunteers must demonstrate patience and flexibility while working with our dedicated learners.
