Adeso has successfully launched social enterprises and subsidiaries, such as Ladhan Investment Ltd, Libin Investment Ltd, and Kuja, each with the aim of building the ecosystem needed to confront the legacy of colonialism. These entities all fall under the private sector arm of Adeso, while Adeso’s humanitarian programs and internal operations fall under the non-profit arm of Adeso and are led by Program Leads and Departmental Heads. Through this portfolio of solutions, we work to connect, design, launch, and scale the most promising innovations that will be a catalyst for community-led change. Kuja is a social enterprise powered by Adeso. Kuja develops solutions to overcome the barriers faced by local and national NGOs by creating an online platform and community for actors across humanitarian aid and global development. Through Kuja, local and national organizations can strengthen their profiles, showcase their work, and connect with suitable funders and partners. The platform offers practical solutions to improve direct access to funding, strengthen capacity, expand networks, and increase organizations’ confidence to deliver on their missions.

Unlike fragmented tools and systems designed primarily from the Global North, Kuja is built specifically for organizations in the Global South, reflecting their realities, challenges, and strengths. Our solutions include:

• Networking and resources platform connects organizations, amplifies their impact, and fosters a community focused on change.
• Grants’ marketplace: makes it easier to find funding opportunities and helps donors identify high-impact partners.
• Grant management: reduces administrative and reporting burdens through tools, processes, and operational support so organizations can focus on impact.

Role Summary

The Kuja Platform Community Engagement Officer will be a key volunteer role focused on strengthening participation, trust, and a sense of belonging within the Spanish speaking Kuja community. This role requires a serious understanding of community engagement, intercultural communication, responsible digital moderation, and respectful support to local and national organizations. The volunteer will support user activation, retention, and meaningful participation, with a particular focus on recruiting and onboarding Spanish-speaking organizations to the platform. The role will help ensure the community remains safe, inclusive, useful, and aligned with Kuja’s values, code of conduct, and data protection policies.

Responsibilities

• Support community engagement initiatives that strengthen interaction, trust, and knowledge-sharing among Kuja Spanish speaking users.
• Welcome new users, guide them on how to use the platform, and support their active integration into the community.
• Monitor conversations, posts, and activities on the platform to promote a respectful, safe, and inclusive environment.
• Identify opportunities to increase participation from local and national organizations, particularly those facing barriers to networks, resources, or funding in Latin America and the Carribean.
• Recruit, engage, and onboard Spanish-speaking organizations to the Kuja platform, helping them understand the platform’s value and supporting their participation in the community.
• Receive, document, and respond in a timely manner to user questions, feedback, and needs, ensuring insights reach the Kuja team and feedback loops are closed appropriately.
• Immediately escalate any reports of behavior that are not aligned with Kuja’s code of conduct and support coordination of an appropriate response.
• Identify fake accounts, spam, misleading information, or risks to the community, and report them promptly to the relevant team.
• Support the quality of community content, including reviewing resources, messages, and translations for clarity, relevance, and consistency with Kuja’s user experience.
• Review Spanish-language content on the Kuja platform to support accuracy, clarity, cultural relevance, and consistency with Kuja’s tone and user experience.
• Support the Digital Engagement Officer with translation and adaptation of social media content into Spanish, ensuring messaging is clear, accessible, and appropriate for Spanish-speaking audiences.
• Collaborate in identifying grants, resources, trainings, and tools relevant to users, and support their organization within the platform.
• Propose improvements based on usage patterns, community needs, and learning from user engagement.
• Represent Kuja’s values in all community interactions, promoting respect, active listening, inclusion, accountability, and local leadership.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Professional written and spoken English and Spanish is required.
• Experience or demonstrated interest in community engagement, digital community moderation, international development, humanitarian action, civil society, or strengthening local organizations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage clearly, respectfully, and with cultural sensitivity.
• Ability to actively listen, synthesize feedback, and translate community needs into practical recommendations.
• Strong attention to detail, ethical judgment, and commitment to confidentiality, data protection, and user safety.
• Ability to work remotely, independently, and in an organized manner while meeting deadlines and maintaining regular communication with the team.
• Collaborative attitude, curiosity, flexibility, and commitment to local leadership, inclusion, and justice in the humanitarian and development sector.
