About the Pet Cancer Foundation
The Pet Cancer Foundation’s vision is to increase the life expectancy and improve the quality of life of pets diagnosed with cancer. Estimates currently suggest that approximately 12M dogs and cats are developing cancer every year, which is roughly 6x the number of humans getting cancer yearly within North America.
As our organization grows and our website becomes a vital resource for pet families, we need a skilled WordPress developer to maintain, secure, and enhance our site built on the DIVI theme. This role is critical to ensuring our online presence is reliable, professional, and secure. That is where and how you can help us.
About the Position
The volunteer WordPress Developer (DIVI) is responsible for maintaining and improving our WordPress website, with deep expertise in the DIVI theme. You will handle updates, security hardening, performance optimization, and custom development while ensuring the site remains stable and user-friendly. Working closely with our leadership, you will help implement improvements and prepare the site for future growth. Trustworthiness, attention to detail, and a strong security mindset are essential, as you will have administrative access to sensitive systems.
*Please leave a note with your application to acknowledge your awareness of the volunteer nature of the role. We will only proceed with those candidates who understand this to be a volunteer position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
*Maintain and update the PCF WordPress website, with primary focus on the DIVI theme, plugins, and core functionality.
*Perform regular security audits, apply updates, and implement best practices to protect against vulnerabilities and threats.
*Optimize site performance, speed, and mobile responsiveness.
*Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, including conflicts between themes, plugins, and custom code.
*Create and update custom DIVI modules, layouts, and templates as needed.
*Collaborate with leadership and internal stakeholders on website-related improvements and content integration.
*Work with technical writers to document processes, configurations, and changes for future reference and team knowledge sharing.
*Evaluate and recommend new tools or enhancements to support long-term website goals and scalability.
About You:
You’re a reliable, security-conscious WordPress developer with strong expertise in the DIVI theme. You take pride in building and maintaining clean, fast, and secure websites and enjoy supporting a mission-driven organization. You bring:
*3+ years of hands-on WordPress development experience with proven expertise in the DIVI theme (strong preference; not Elementor or other builders).
*Solid understanding of WordPress security best practices, including hardening, updates, and vulnerability management.
*Experience with performance optimization, custom DIVI development, and troubleshooting complex site issues.
*Proficiency with PHP, CSS, HTML, JavaScript, and standard WordPress debugging tools.
*Excellent attention to detail, strong documentation habits, and a trustworthy, professional approach to handling sensitive systems.
*Ability to work independently in a remote environment with minimal supervision.
*Genuine interest in PCF’s mission and a desire to contribute to a website that supports pet families facing cancer.
Why Volunteer?
Volunteering as WordPress Developer (DIVI) gives you the opportunity to maintain and improve a meaningful nonprofit website during a period of growth. You’ll work with a small, dedicated team, apply your DIVI and security expertise to a high-impact project, gain experience in mission-driven web development, and help ensure pet families can reliably access trusted information and resources.
