Information Technology (IT) Support & Systems Operations Volunteer (OPT/CPT/Internship)
Overview
Q's Ministry / BHITS is seeking motivated Information Technology volunteers to help support and improve our nonprofit organization's technology infrastructure. This opportunity provides practical, hands-on experience working with computer systems, software installation, cloud services, data organization, user support, and technology operations while contributing to educational, scientific, religious, charitable, and community programs.
We welcome students, recent graduates, interns, and professionals. This position is especially suitable for international students participating in OPT or CPT, as responsibilities can be tailored to align with university degree programs and training objectives.
Responsibilities
Volunteers may assist with one or more of the following:
Computer Support & Maintenance
- Diagnose and troubleshoot desktop and laptop computer issues.
- Perform computer tune-ups and system optimization.
- Install, configure, and update operating systems and software.
- Remove unnecessary software and improve system performance.
- Assist with hardware upgrades and peripheral setup.
Desktop Organization & User Support
- Organize desktop applications and shortcuts.
- Configure folders, file structures, and shared workspaces.
- Help users improve productivity and workflow.
- Set up printers, scanners, monitors, and other peripherals.
- Provide basic technical assistance and user support.
Microsoft & Google Workspace Administration
- Configure Microsoft 365 applications.
- Assist with Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and OneDrive.
- Configure Google Workspace, including Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Forms, Calendar, and Meet.
- Organize cloud storage and shared folders.
- Assist with user accounts and permissions.
GitHub & Software Development Support
- Set up GitHub accounts and repositories.
- Assist with Git workflows, version control, branches, and pull requests.
- Help organize software projects and documentation.
- Support developers using Visual Studio Code and related development tools.
- Assist with software deployment and collaboration workflows.
Data Migration & Digital Organization
- Migrate files between computers and cloud platforms.
- Transfer data from legacy systems.
- Organize digital files and archives.
- Verify backups and assist with disaster recovery planning.
- Improve file naming conventions and folder organization.
Network & Infrastructure Support
- Assist with Wi-Fi and basic network troubleshooting.
- Help organize technology inventory.
- Configure basic network devices under supervision.
- Support workstation setup for volunteers and staff.
Documentation & Technology Projects
- Create user guides and technical documentation.
- Document technology procedures and workflows.
- Recommend improvements to organizational technology systems.
- Participate in special IT projects as assigned.
