Volunteers make the world go ’round for many organizations like St. John Center. We depend on 16 volunteers a day to have full capacity to provide all resources to our unhoused friends. That being said, volunteers are hard to come by and we appreciate everyone!
Every day, volunteers welcome our guests, retrieve their mail, answer phones, and provide towels and hygiene items. St. John Center volunteers are often the first people our guests meet.
The Day Shelter and Social Services Center is open 7 days a week, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm (12:30 pm Wednesdays) and volunteers typically serve in 2 hour shifts, which makes volunteering at St. John Center very accessible and flexible. People who are interested in volunteering can begin with the online Volunteer Orientation.
St Johns Center is at the corner of Clay St. and Muhammad Ali Blvd.
Sheehan Landing is beside the Indian Trail shopping center and behind Fazoli's.
Volunteer Orientation Modules
The Volunteer Orientation Modules are videos and a series of questions to be answered after each video by clicking the “Module Questionnaire” link after each video below. The videos have been designed to provide an overview of St. John Center to all new volunteers, in combination with an in-person shadow shift, tour, and volunteer handbook overview. Each module is approximately 2-3 minutes. When clicking the video links below, a YouTube video will open in a separate browser tab or app. If you have any special requests that will not allow you to complete this training online, please let us know.
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old to volunteer without a parent or guardian.
