Join us in transforming the lives of vulnerable children in Mwanza, Tanzania. At Hope Villages School, we serve orphans, street-involved children, and children from extremely poor families who lack access to essential hygiene education. Your support will help protect them from preventable illnesses and empower them with lifelong habits that build healthier futures.
As a Hygiene & Sanitation Education Volunteer, you will play a vital role in teaching children practical skills that directly improve their health, confidence, and well-being. Your contribution will have an immediate and long-lasting impact on the entire community.
Responsibilities
- Teach children proper handwashing techniques, personal hygiene and oral care
- Lead interactive sessions on sanitation, safe water use and disease prevention
- Support school hygiene routines such as daily handwashing stations
- Develop creative educational tools (posters, songs, games, demonstrations)
- Assist in identifying hygiene challenges within the school and suggesting solutions
- Promote positive behavior through engaging and child-friendly activities
- Work alongside teachers and community staff to strengthen health practices
- Participate in community outreach days when needed
- Support in fundraising programs
Qualifications
- Passion for working with children and vulnerable communities
- No professional medical background required training and guidance provided
- Open-minded, respectful and willing to learn from local culture
- Ability to communicate clearly in English
- Creative, flexible and able to work in a team
- Experience in teaching, childcare, nursing, public health, social work or community service is an added advantage but not required
